The painting imagines Goddess Vitasta, the sacred personification of the river Jhelum in Kashmir, within the landscape to which she belongs. I painted her form through what I understood of her associations with water, Kashmir and the sacred landscape. The mountains, architecture, lotus and aquatic life bring mythology and geography together, allowing the work to become an interpretation shaped by memory, knowledge and imagination.
